Perry Lindsey International Studies Magnet to Feature New Gymnasium
Young athletes at Perry Lindsey International Studies Magnet will be able to play basketball and other sports indoors when the school’s new gymnasium opens in fall 2014.
The project includes a 14,000-square-foot gym with locker and changing rooms, as well as a new sports field and parking improvements. The project also includes parking lot improvements such as increasing the number of spaces and installing lighting.
The gymnasium entry features a legacy courtyard with Japanese maples, whose red leaves will serve as a reminder of the heroism of the school’s namesake, Perry Lindsey, a member of the Tuskegee Airmen. Known for their fighter planes’ “red tails”, this group of African American U.S. Army Air Corps pilots were among the most decorated servicemen in World War II.
