DID YOU KNOW?

  • Browning High School, the second new high school to be built with Measure K funds, will offer courses that meet entrance requirements for the California State University and University of California systems, while also featuring a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen for culinary studies.

  • Measure K funds can only be used for school renovations, modernization and building, not for salaries or operational expenses.

  • Most buildings on school campuses in Long Beach are at least 40 to 60 years old.

  • Newcomb Academy and Roosevelt Elementary School, scheduled to open their rebuilt campuses in fall of 2015, will host community previews during the summer.

Bond Funds to Improve Bancroft and Hoover Gyms

When the gymnasiums at Bancroft and Hoover middle schools were first built, Harry Truman was president and gasoline cost an average of 16 cents a gallon.

Much has changed in the last 65 years, including local, state and federal building codes.

City and School District Plan to Partner on Baseball Field

In a classic example of city and school district partnership, two government entities are finalzing a joint use agreement to upgrade and share use of the Houghton Park baseball field next to Jordan High School in North Long Beach.

CITIZENS' BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE


Retired Principal Rosi Pedersen
Returns as Volunteer Member

Rosi Pedersen, who retired after 30 years as a teacher and school administrator, has returned to the Long Beach Unified School District as a member of the Measure K Citizensí Bond Oversight Committee.

 

She was appointed earlier this year by the Board of Education to the all-volunteer group, which oversees expenditures of the $1.2 billion school building and renovation program.
