  • The rebuilding of Roosevelt Elementary is about 40 percent complete and Newcomb K-8 Academy is following close behind.

  • Construction on Browning High School, an 800-student college-preparatory, hospitality and culinary arts academy will begin this fall.

  • Dozens of Measure K projects will move into high gear this summer to take advantage of the school vacation period.

MHP Structural Engineers Making Buildings Safe

The structural engineers at MHP, Inc. of Long Beach helped design projects throughout the city, including Long Beach City Hall and projects at Cal State Long Beach, Long Beach City College and Long Beach’s Aquarium of the Pacific.

Maria Ochoa of Cabrillo HS is 2016 Olympic Hopeful

When the 2016 Summer Olympics begin in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Maria Ochoa may be among the U.S. athletes competing in water polo. The 14-year-old freshman at Cabrillo High School is on the U.S. Olympic Development Team and is considered one of the top female water polo players in the state.

Heather Morrison Leads Green Team at Longfellow

When Heather Morrison saw that uneaten food and milk from the lunch program at her daughter’s school were being tossed in the trash, she set out to change that. After extensive research and talking to the principal, the school district’s Nutrition Services director and other parents, she helped start a food donation program and lunch recycling program at Longfellow Elementary School.
