Technology Projects Put LBUSD on Leading Edge

Measure K school bonds are allowing the Long Beach Unified School District to offer leading-edge educational technology with districtwide projects such as state-of-the art wi-fi, telecommunications, security, clocks, intercom and speaker systems.

Measure K Projects Shift into High Gear

While students and most staff took a break, summer vacation was the time when major Measure K construction projects shifted into high gear.

For example, Wilson Classical High School students returned from vacation to find four buildings sporting new clay tile roofs. Several additional projects are underway, including improvements to walkways and the addition of a new stadium ticket booth, concession stand, and restrooms.

Jordan High's $140 Million Renovations Start

Jordan High School will be transformed in the next seven years with $140 million in new construction and major renovations. The work will be split into several phases to allow students to stay on one part of campus while construction is going on in another.

Jordahl Construction Calls Avalon Home

Jim and Aisha Hoffman of Jordahl Construction

Jordahl Construction, Inc. (JCI), is headquartered just 23 miles from Long Beach on Santa Catalina Island and still within Long Beach Unified School District boundaries.

Catalina Island is 76 square miles, and the only city there, Avalon, has been the home of Jordahl Construction since 1985 when Gloria and Tom Jordahl started a construction and demolition business.

Julie Jackson Brings Business Savvy

Julie Jackson is the successful general manager of 150 Chevron and G&M gas stations throughout Southern California, and in her free time, she brings the same business savvy to her volunteer efforts on behalf of schools in Long Beach.


Since her daughter, Gigi, started school, Jackson has been an active parent advocate, rallying support for a shade canopy and establishing the Technology Foundation at Kettering Elementary School to fund computer education.
